Korean Air wins first meeting of season with Woori Card shutout

The Korean Air Jumbos snapped a two-game losing streak with their first win over Woori Card Woori WON this season.

Korean Air earned a 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-16) shutout victory over Woori Card in the fourth round of the Dodram 2023-2024 V-League at Gyeyang Gymnasium in Incheon on Friday.

Korean Air, which won the title for three consecutive seasons from 2020-2021 to 2022-2023, remains in third place in the league with a 12-9 record and 38 points this season. However, with the win, they moved to within one point of second-place Samsung Fire (14W6D, 38 points) and four points of leader Woori Card (15W6D, 42 points). The victory was all the more valuable because it came against Woori Card, who hadn't won a game until the third round.

Lim Dong-hyuk was a monster on his own, scoring 28 points (73.3% offensive success rate). Jung Ji-seok chipped in with 12 points (52.4% offensive success rate), while Jeong Jung-yong (9 points), Kim Gyu-min (4 points), Cho Jae-young (2 points), and Han Se-u (1 point) also scored.

Woori Card dropped its second straight game with the loss. Matei led the way with 13 points (38.7% offensive success rate), and Kim Jae-hwi (5 points), Han Sung-jung (5 points), Kim Ji-han (4 points), Park Jin-woo (3 points), Kim Dong-min (3 points), 온라인카지노 Song Myung-geun (2 points), and Issei (1 point) scored evenly, but the team committed 19 errors and collapsed in the second and third sets.

Both teams continued to battle in the first set. Woori Card took a narrow lead, but Korean Air kept the score at no more than two points and slowly chased Woori Card. Eventually, Lim Dong-hyuk's open attack tied the score at 19-19. After exchanging points until 21-21, Korean Air took a 22-21 lead with a back-attack by Lim Dong-hyuk and continued to push Woori Card to take control.

Lim Dong-hyuk was a one-man show in the first set, scoring 14 points (76.5% offensive success rate). Jeong Jung-yong (4 points), Jeong Ji-seok (2 points), and Kim Kyu-min (1 point) also scored. Woori Card was led by Matei's eight points (46.7% offense) and contributions from Kim Jae-hwi (3 points), Kim Ji-han (3 points), and Han Sung-jung (2 points), but they couldn't stop Lim Dong-hyuk.

With the momentum on their side, Daehan Hangong played a more dominant game in the second set, unlike the first. He scored back-to-back points to go up 11-3 and took control of the set early on. After the sudden collapse, Woori Card regained their focus in the middle of the set and tried to catch up, but there was only so much they could do as the gap was already too large.

In the second set, Korean Air's duo of Lim Dong-hyuk (75.0% attack success rate) and Jung Ji-seok (71.4% attack success rate) exploded. Kim Gyu-min (2 points) and Jeong Jung-yong (1 point) also contributed. Woori Card collapsed on itself with 11 unforced errors while Matei also struggled with one point (20.0% attacking success rate).

In the third set, Woori Card was unable to do much of anything. With the game in hand, Korean Air pushed Woori Card from the start to complete the shutout victory.
